Customer Reviews

Not as expected...not same quality as AO past glasses.I plan to try to contact the seller. I have bought several pair of these AO glasses in the past few years. I really like them...but...this pair was way below standards. The lens did not fit the frames well. The back of the lens was sticking past the frames. They appeared very light ( less weight) compared to previous AO glasses I bought. I weighed them on a lab scale and they were 30% lighter (less weight) than my old pair that is two years old. I am not satisfied with the quality. I sure hope all of the AO eyewear has not been cheapened un like this pair. 3These Original Pilot Sunglasses are GrrrrreatI really love these glasses. I used to purchase the Randolph Engineering brand which I know were issued to the military in the past. I still have a pair from RE, so I could compare them with the AO and I do not see any difference except that these I purchased have the green glass and gold frames where from Randolph I got the gray lens's and matte frames (chrome like). They came just as described. I was concerned about the size before I ordered them. Since from Randolph I always got the 58 mm (Yes, I have a big head) and they fit wonderful, Well these AO's at 57 mm width fit perfectly as well and I can tell very little, if any difference in how they look. These are the real deal. I had to laugh as I was reading reviews of some of the $10 glasses and some people were saying those $10 glasses were just like the ones I wore in Viet Nam ~ well, I beg to differ. I got some of those $10 glasses, which were nice, but shape was a little different and while they were better than most other $10 glasses, they were not exactly the same shape and were not as good looking as the AO's and Randolphs. These are dark tho, so be prepared for that. My Randolph grays are not as dark as these. I don't know if this darkness in the greens is standard with Randolphs or not. But for being outside and driving during the day, I like dark!I am glad that I tried these out, since Randolph raised their prices some time in the last few years. I had paid about $70 for the Randolph (I was also able to buy replacement lenses when I broke those for only $20) and now they are around $150. I really cannot find any differences at all. Maybe in some of the other colors, I don't know, but the AO's are awesome, as are the Randolphs, but much less expensive.IF you are familiar with Randolphs, you'll love these. IF you are new to this style, you may need to get used to the way they fit with this type of Bayonet (from glass to ear). 5Very good qualityI have been thinking about getting a pair for along time. The finish and quality to the build was outstanding, I am happy with the high quality. The lenses work great. The weight of the glass lenses is a drawback, and these tend to be less comfortable. I was also curious about the comparison between polycarbonate and glass (these are glass) lenses. All my other sunglasses are prescription polycarbonate lens. After a few weeks I have formed an opinion on which I like better. The glass is heavy and tends to cause the glasses to slide down my nose, and that has been a problem. Also my other glasses are more of the modern wrap around style which function better for coverage. Combined with the issues these glasses generally offer less coverage, protection and comfort. However they are very good glasses and would not hesitate to use them. 4High Quality, Comfort and Great for Aviators.52mm are Womens sized glasses. The fitment is perfect for me. I love the True Green Colored lenses. I wear them while Flying and while Boating. I prefer Green over Grey as True color Green allows me to read density shifts in clouds much easier, and cuts through the haze better than Grey and more Vivid and clearer than Amber. I will never go back to RayBans after wearing these, that is how much I like wearing them, plus, they are Bayonet style, so not headaches, and my over the ear Headsets pose no problems whatsoever with these sunglasses. 5Loved them dearly until the stupid ass adjustable nose pieces broke off.So as soon as i got these I fell in love with them because of how great they look and bc of the quality; they really do have a nice weighty feel to them and the lenses are thick.Right from the start though I could tell those damn adjustable nose pieces were gonna be a problem... not to mention they're uncomfortable as hell and due to the weight of these glasses they're gonna push down on your nose very hard, leaving goofy marks on the side of your nose as a result. They were the only part of the glasses that genuinely felt flimsy and low quality and sure enough a few months ago one of them outright snapped off, making the glasses basically unusable until I find a DIY way to fix them or rest on the nose comfortably. I feel kinda bad leaving 2 stars on these but man, I've gotten significantly more mileage out of the $12 sunglasses I got from urban outfitters (these glasses cost me almost 5 times that)Lesson learned, stick with the cheaper brands. Somehow these $60 "american" made sunglasses don't even have polarization meanwhile half of the cheap <$15 chinese sunglasses you see on this site come polarized.Meh. Big regret buying these for me personally, $60 down the god damn drain. 2Great shades, opt for smaller rather than largerGreat glasses, optical quality is amazing (colors look more saturated and cinematic), and the gold really looks great. The polarization is every bit as good, if not better, than my dad's $200 Luxottica shades. Just as a heads up though, with these glasses, LESS IS MORE!! I got the 55s and returned them for the 52s bc the glass really is heavy, and it WILL slide down your nose, especially when you're sweating or moving a lot. Also, the style of the frames and lenses just looks better smaller. The 55s looked a bit doofy on me, but the 52s look fly as hell. Don't get the 55mm or 57mm option unless you are sure you have a fairly wide head. 52 is the best look for most people. 4Very Well BuiltDon t expect a fancy box, reference material, or instructions, when you order these sunglasses. You do get a very small AO card, explaining their one year warranty and a case for the glasses. But what you do get is a very well manufactured pair of sunglasses. The frame, in my opinion, borders on being over built . The glasses fit nicely and are very stylish in appearance. The plastic covered temples are easily adjusted. The lenses are not to dark, and allow the right amount of light in. I got a polarized model that really controls glare. I would recommend these sunglasses very much. 5Well made classic aviator sunglassesI bought these because they have a really dark lenses (I don't care for mirrored lenses), and because they have the bayonet temples which helps achieve a more "one size fits all" fit. I've had these for several months now, and I couldn't be more happy with them. They are very durable and stylish. They fit really nicely with most ball caps. For periods of extended wear (greater than 2 hours), I do experience a mild discomfort because the temple width is a little narrow for my head, but it's a rare occasion that I need to wear them longer than that, so it's not a big deal.Overall, great product. I would buy these again. 4Make sure you get the correct size for your headI like the sunglasses now, I did not at first. I did not realize, when I bought them, that the temple arms were pretty much straight. I assumed all glasses fit behind the ear to keep them from falling off. I guess that is what Bayonet temples mean. They kept falling from my face to the ground. Finally I got a needle nose plier and bent hinges in and they now fit. After a few tries they finally fit my face. I now wear them whenever I'm outside (my optometrist told me to after my cataract surgery). They are very nice. They filter the sunlight well and they look very nice on me. I'm glad these have glass and not plastic lenses yet they are not heavy at all. 4Go NAVY! And Army and Air Force and Marines and Coast Guard :-)My dad was a Naval Aviator '69 - '72 on USS Coral Sea. I had his original aviator sunglasses, and they were AWESOME! Unfortunately I let my "friend" borrow them when he went into the Navy. When he came home, I asked for them back, and he said they were his. Not my friend anymore... These are the closest thing I can find, since they are made by the same company that made my dad's. They'll never have the same sentimental value, but I'll always think of my dad when I wear them. And I'll wear them PROUDLY!PS - get the 52mm unless you truly have a gargantuan noggin. 5
