Don Draper may be a dirtbag but man does he have mad taste.I just received my pair today. They arrived poorly packed in a shipping envelope with no bubble wrap to prevent them from being damaged...as you can see in my pictures the box was totally crushed, fortunately the glasses appear to be un-damaged along with the included protective case. That being said the product itself is of amazing quality. They have a nice heft to them and are made entirely of metal with the exception of the clear arms and the rubber nose pads. In terms of their design, they re absolutely gorgeous and as I previously stated, solid as a rock. These are of just as good (if not better) build quality as other popular brand glasses such Ray Ban s. Don t get me wrong I do love my Ray Ban s but everyone has a pair at this point so if you want something more affordable, unique and still quite stylish these are a steal. All the AO logos look very tasteful and are nicely imprinted into the metal. I think the last thing to be said is the fact that these were developed and utilized for military use back in the day just gives them that added cool factor. I love that they re made in America and if they re good enough for our troops than they re good enough for me! That being said the arms on them aren t like most sunglasses that hook around your ear as they were designed to be easily wearable and removable for pilots while wearing helmets and this will probably take a little getting use to but to me that isn t a big deal, I just see it as a cool quirk/random trivia. 5The REAL Aviators (Flight Goggle 58)High quality and sturdy frames, temples, and lenses at great price with historical value.Forget Ray-Bans people, these are some bad-ass shades! Not only are they inexpensive for the quality, but the significant historical value behind these glasses seals the deal. When people compliment you on these shades (which they will), you can enlighten them on the fact that the Flight Goggle 58's were honored to be the first ever sunglasses to land on the moon, which of course were worn by Commander Neil Armstrong and the crew of Apollo 11 in 1969 -OR- They're what Don Draper wears in "Mad Men"Size Advice: If you only have large face, then do 55mm or 57mm. Otherwise, if you have a medium-large to small face, I'd do the 52mm. I bought the 55mm first (I have a bigger head for my height) and I ended up returning for 52mm - which I'm wearing in the photo below.Hope this helps! As you can tell, I'm very passionate about these glasses! If I could give them 6 stars, I would. 5Tough to beatI have Ray Bans and my favorites Randolph aviators, all in the $150 + range. These are as good or better quality wise than the Ray Bans, close 2 Randolph maybe not as good.lense wise but overall construction very similar. The 52 size fits my wife perfectly ,she has 55 aviators that look too big.Don't spend $20 on crap or $150 on "brand names" these will be your favorite and I am.still surprised they are only $60 and would buy more if I didn't have so many already. 5The Real ThingI was issued a pair of these by the United States Navy in 1972, I still wear them, they have never broken. The temple arms are a little loose after 42 years, so I decided it was time to spring for a new pair. I received the new ones in two days, in perfect condition. They look exactly like my Navy issue pair. The new ones needed a slight adjustment where they rest on the nose, you can do that and it shouldn't be expected they will fit everybody perfect right out of the box. I put a little screwdriver in the nose pad loop and bent each side out just a little bit. Got a fat nose - bend them in, skinny nose - bend them out. Simple. A word of caution, NEVER bend the temple arms, if they don't hug your head the way you like, bend the mount where the arms mount to the lens frame. Just don't bend the arms! Though this shouldn't be necessary if you select the correct size for your head. 52mm is the distance across the longest part of one lens. I have a narrow face and these fit perfect.Price? How can you beat 50 bucks for the best looking coolest sunglasses ever made. One year warranty, they'll last a lifetime if you take care of them. Get a hard case to put them in.American Optical came out with these in 1958. Thanks for not trying to improve on perfection. 5AO Eyewear Delivers!Just received mine, and they're everything I expected. Will most likely pick up an additional pair in silver next! The glass lenses are great, the frames are simple yet elegant, and the case is solid. What more could I ask for! 5American Made ClassicsThese sunglasses are American made classics. American Optical first created these sunglasses in 1958 and were dubbed the "Flight Goggle 58." The Original Pilot sunglasses were since worn by the Apollo astronauts, military legends like Chuck Yeager, and made fashion staples in Hollywood by Travis Bickle and Don Draper. They're of fantastic quality for the price and are built to last. Here are a few things to keep in mind. The lenses are made in three sizes, 52, 55, and 57mm. Unless you have a huge head, get the 52mm. They're supposed to look smaller and fit tighter than the popularized aviators. The glasses will also likely need to be adjusted. Straight out of the box, they sat very low on my face and did not cover eyebrows so I had them adjusted. Most eyeglass stores will adjust at little to no price. The lenses are made of glass and will crack if you drop them. AO used to offer lens replacements on their site but no longer do so. I'm currently on my second pair. My first pair lasted me two years until I dropped them and shattered the lens. If you're clumsy, I'd consider buying the Original Pilot's with plastic lenses. If you go that route however, they will be lighter, scratch easier, and you'll trade optical quality.I love these sunglasses. Both the polarized and non-polarized lenses are great and the build quality is top notch. AO also provides a 1-year warranty. If you're going for the classic, real aviator look, look no further. 5Great Customer Service from AO HeadquartersI bought several pairs of these back in 2016. I had a pair that scratched right in the eye's view. I sent them in and had a new pair of lens put in. The customer service was excellent and the turn around to get them back was very fast. Since then I have sent in 2 other pairs and had the lens replaced. The frame will last forever and if you don't drop them on concrete the lens will as well. All in all these are the best sunglasses I have ever owned and the company that makes them are very nice to work with. 5the 52 mm size is the military issue standard and look the best on most facesThese are the granddaddy of all aviator sunglasses, U.S. made to the same military specs as issued to pilots from the 50's thru the 70's. The true color gray glass lenses work well whether flying or driving and are as stylish now as they were back in the day. One note to be aware of is these glasses come in 3 sizes, 52, 55, and 57 mm, the 52 mm size is the military issue standard and look the best on most faces, A.O. Optical claims the 55 mm size is average for most people, it is not, I made the mistake of going with that suggestion and the first pair I ordered looked like welding goggles they were so large on my face, I sent them back and ordered the 52 mm and they are perfect and I am 6'1", 205 lbs., and wear an XL hat size. They also look right on my wife @ 5'6", 135, wearing a size med. hat, so unless you have a giant head or horse face, stick with the original 52 mm size, you will be glad you did. 5I am very particular about my lenses being clean and clear and so even the mild scratches have gotten to be annoying. AlsoGot these as replacement for my now somewhat vintage AO sunglasses issued to me in 1978. Except for being slightly scratched/dinged and loose despite continued bending, those are still in decent shape. However, I am very particular about my lenses being clean and clear and so even the mild scratches have gotten to be annoying. Also, I am going to shelf the original pair with my other military memorablia/love-me shelf/wall items as they are now 40 years old. Hence bought the new pair and find them to very close to being as good or better than originals. The info card conveys made in US by American Optical IP Corp of Southbridge, MA. The tighter fit and crystal clear lenses of the new pair is big improvement over my vintage pair and I don't note any indication of poor materials, workmanship or assembly. The accompanying pics show my old pair next to the new pair. The original side bare was stamped AO as well as the size in inches (51/2 on my old ones). Also, while the case that comes with the new pair is not great, it's still better than the original plastic case that my old originals were issued with. I bought a cheap hard case to use for the new ones. I have no reason not to give these 5 stars. If buying off Amazon and want original quality, suggest ensuring that they are AO brand made in US; there are many cheesy knockoffs that provide the look but not the quality. 5American Optical glasses still made in USAAO has been in business for a long time and is well known for its lab microscopes. AO original pilot sunglasses are built to the same great specs as they have always been and made in USA stil. Mil spec grade, ground glass (zero power), true gray color, and the fact you can order replacement parts direct from AO make this a great everyday work glass.Note: I have a lot of "O" glasses. Overpriced and lenses made of plastic. I know quality when I see them. AO is top line if you get them with the glass lens. I don't like polarized lenses as they interfere with my smartphone face.I have a slender face for a male. My hat size is 6 7/8. The 52 mm size is a perfect fit as the temples can easily be adjusted to any grip. 5
