Customer Reviews

WRONG BRAND FROM "Fulfilled by Amazon" AGAIN!IGNORE ABOVE STAR RATING This is more of a warning and a rantI Ordered a "Proforce Olive Drab and Black Shemagh Scarf Sold by Direct Premium Buys" and received a "Rathco branded 8537 Shemagh Tactical Desert Scarf". This is not the first time I have received a different branded item from a "Fulfilled by Amazon" purchase, ordered some real 8 strand paracord and received Rathco cheap knock off and had it replaced twice with the exact same cheap Rathco cordage each time from a "Fulfilled by Amazon" seller.I do not know if I will even attempt a return on this item as when clicking the "Proforce Olive Drab and Black Shemagh Scarf Sold by Direct Premium Buys" under my orders now points me to "Rothco Shemagh Tactical Desert Scarf 8537". I am pretty sure this is just Amazon dolling out generic stock and not Direct Premium Buys fault.Think I will put the leg work in and go track down a nice high quality Shemagh from a brick and mortar store instead of dealing with this hassle again 3Very Handy!I took this bad boy with me to Afghanistan in 2011. It served me very very well. If you ve ever read a book called The Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy then you know that a towl is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitch hiker can have . This applies to Shemaghs and intercontinental hitch hikers as well. During my adventures in the middle east I used this guy to keep dust and sand out of my face during sand storms in Kuwait and when jumping in and out of choppers all over Afghanistan, to shield my eyes from the blazing sun, to provide shade on hot days in the field, to sleep on when no clean ground was available, as a blanket when sleeping in freezing transient huts, and during my 14 days of homelessness stranded on the streets of Bagram Air Field, as a marker to ID my bags, as a rope to tie hats and other stuff to my bags, as a sweat rag, and as a drying towel when it was clean enough lol. If you re going to be on the move get this, you will find a use for it. 5Great Bang for the BuckThis is a versatile, tactical shemagh that is made all the better by its bargain price. This is a fantastic product to help keep you comfortable when the mercury rises and you're undertaking athletic endeavors. It protects your head, face, and neck from the sun and also helps contain/soak up any humidity/sweat. Basically, it keeps you cooler and protects you from sunburn. As desired, it is pretty large which allows for a wide range of wearing options depending on your usage scenario. It is a tiny bit rougher than I would like, but let's be honest here, this isn't a pricey cashmere scarf. Pretty decent selection of colors too. 4I love it!It is fantastic. Basically it is what others describe it to be. It does its job, and is very stylish. I am an airsofter that has been using these cheap "fashion" shemaghs sold in vendors for 8 bucks. I REALLY recommend to get this one over the other. The stylish one is silk thin and is made in China(myns had a label, not trying to be stereotypical). This one however, is authentically made in Pakistan (again, label.) and is of better build quality over the China-made one. It is much thicker, but still breathable, and it does what a shemagh does...i got the OD green one by the way. The desert tan one and OD would be the best IMO. The red and white one, neon blue one and red and black ones are too noticable for airsoft use. It makes your head a bright easy target, but it is all about preference....Pros:The REAL shemagh that serves its practicality. Not one of those stylish scarfs.Cons: Myns smelled like fish when i got it. Though i am used to the smell of fish, so no biggie. There was also a white label sewn on to the shemagh that says it is made in pakistan. +1 on the authenticity, -1 on the fact that it can be annoying to rip out. 1+-1=0 so the con cancels.Overall, It is what it is. GET IT! warning: may smell like fish when you get it. 5Very nice for the moneyFirst purchase of this type of item and I liked it so much I just purchased another for my son. He liked it as well so I will make a present of this one when it arrives. Details: very large about 40+ inches square, soft and somewhat thin fabric. I thought the weight of the fabric would be greater but now after using it doubled up an wrapped I understand why it is made from realatively light fabric because anythng heavier would not breath. It also wouldn't wrap and tie as nice. I admittedly do not have experience with this type of scarf but it feels nice and when worn loosely around your neck and head is very warm and insulating. I hope to try it in the spring or summer but it is 15 degrees here in Pennslyvania right now. 4The Shemagh from ProForce (MFR) is 44" by 44". ...The Shemagh from ProForce (MFR) is 44" by 44". It is larger than most by at least 3". As others have mentioned, hand wash for at least 4 times by itself, the dye does come out. On the plus side, you know the color wont fade after years of use. Also, just air dry the Shemagh naturally. It is made of cotton and will shrink in the dryer. The quality is there, same one I used in Iraq without any issues. The Shemagh also has 1001 uses. Just "Google" it or check out "YouTube" for Idea's. Thanks 5Why haven't we been using these for years? The Shemagh I received was produced in Pakistan. Fine by me as I figure they know what a Shemagh should be.First thing - before you wear the Shemagh out and then end up covered in dye, make sure you soak the Shemagh overnight in water/vinegar or wash it a couple times BY ITSELF. This will bleed! I soaked mine overnight and then washed it. When it was ready to be worn the color was exactly as they described it (olive & black). The Shemagh is 100% cotton - so I recommend keeping it out of the dryer.I've only worn the Shemagh out once but it definitely did the job. The temperature was about 15F and it was snowing heavily. I kept the Shemagh tightly around my neck and occasionally brought it up over my mouth and nose to warm them up. I couldn't be happier with the job it did helping to keep me warm and I'd definitely recommend one to friends. The only downside is well... people have predetermined that certain things mean certain things. After explaining some of the history of the Shemagh to the people I was with, they didn't look at me quite so weird, although I suppose if I had worn the Shemagh in any other configuration I may have had some more odd looks. 4Excellent product with so many usesI really like this shemagh, it's light when unfolded completely as just one layer, but surprisingly heavy when doubled over. It was pretty cold tonight where I am and I went outside with it and my face, neck, and head were kept very warm. As others have said, this isn't something to wear around in public but if you think about it, you wouldn't go wearing a ski mask in public either, but just like a ski mask this would have its uses in certain places. I plan on wearing this hunting for the warmth and extra camo as well as protection from irritating bugs, and this would also make for a sort of a head piece for a leafy suit if you wanted to go that route. It is also a little darker than it is in the picture, but I like that about it, it makes it less distinguishable. This is the first shemagh that I've owned, and for the price it seems to be a good deal. I highly recommend it. 5Great Wrap, But Makes Me Look Like a PoseurBought it for sun protection and learned several ways to wear it (via the included instructions and various YouTube videos). But the truth is that I'll never wear this out of the house. I just don't think I can swing the look, if you know what I mean.So as an honest review of the product, I give it five stars: it's well made, authentic, and large enough to use as a wrap in many styles. But as I review of myself, I give myself 1-star for kind of looking like a poseur in this wrap. 5From the deserts of the Middle East - to the forests of the East Coast- the Shemagh is a great and welcome addition for any outdThese things have proven their usefulness over and over again. From the deserts of the Middle East - to the forests of the East Coast- the Shemagh is a great and welcome addition for any outdoor enthusiast or soldier alikeDifferent brands sell different fabrics and styles- but this one has a perfect balance between cost and functionality.Just a WARNING: It is NOT flame resistant. Should you expose it to open flame or an object hot enough to start an ignition; it will burn- and if its wrapped around your neck/head area- you will be very sorry if it does. That being said: Don't be an idiot and wear it into a fire and you'll be fine.Great buy- worth every cent. 5
