Nice And CoolThe mesh is cool, the color's cool (lt olive), and the fit is fine. You can adjust the size. Wide brim, people, that sun is mean! 5Nice and light weightNice and light weight. Maybe runs a little on the large side but we like them that wAy. Nice size brim to cover face and neck and the mesh part will keep your head from getting too hot.Overall... A good choice 5Grand Canyon ApprovedI took this hat to the Grand Canyon in 100-110 degree weather. It worked wonderfully to keep me cool during the scorching heat! And it looks nice too. :( 4lightweight and breathable!Just what I needed for my beach trip. Now it serves duty for sun protection while mowing the lawn. Light weight and breathable! My dog even got some use out of it. 5Great for the beachThis hat worked great for the beach vacation I took. There is mesh venting, so my head didn't get sweaty. Kept the sun off my face and neck. Definitely more for function then fashion, but it was well worth the cheap cost. 5Looney for boonie - thanks for saving my safari! There I was, smack dab in the middle of the windswept plains of the Ngorongoro Crater in northern Tanzania. Our guide had rousted out of our beds and bundled us into the safari van well before dawn, and the air was downright frosty. I was grateful to have had the foresight to pack a warm hoodie as I shivered at out first stop - just outside the entrance to the park where we looked down upon the crater in complete wonder. The vistas were absolutely breathtaking and the promise of exotic and dangerous wildlife to be seen called to us as we cruised down into the park. As the hours slipped by we were delighted to encounter zebras, wildebeests, giraffes, elephants, hippos, hyenas and the king of them all - lions. The morning eased into afternoon and the cool morning dew was replaced by sunlight that ratched up ever so imperceptibly until it was almost blinding in intensity and heat. The danger of sunburn loomed large until I remembered my Camo Coll Outdoor Sun Cap Camouflage Bucket Mesh Boonie hat - folded up and tucked into a small pocket of my purse. I retrieved it from its hiding spot and placed it jauntily on my head, grateful for the wide brim which shielded both my head and my face form the fierce rays of the sun. As the van picked up speed moving from the hippo watering hole, I pulled the string taut and was very pleased that I could use both hands to snap photos of this amazing place, rather than clutching my hat to my head for fear of it blowing away.Safari - saved - thanks to the Camo Coll Outdoor Sun Cap Camouflage Bucket Mesh Boonie hat 5Keeping the Sun outIn preparation for a hot and sunny vacation, I purchased this hat to keep the sun off my face. I consider myself to have a pretty large head. This hat fits pretty loose. Luckily, it does have an adjustable strap to keep it on my head. No strong gust of wind will carry this hat away unless I forget to tighten this up. I like the Army Green color I got it in, but I'm not crazy about the brim not having a support to keep it in shape. It's flimsy and I will have to iron it before our trip. It's lightweight and I think it looks okay. I will update this review after I return from vacation. 4Great hatThe elder son got a cabin on a small river and has kayaks. After chasing his dad's straw hat downriver twice in one ride he "suggested" we get something with ties so Dad's hat wouldn't blow off. This looked OK, though I worried about "one size" as that often translates to "fits no one."Turns out "one size" is great. I just measured; the inner circumference is 23.5". That's fairly large, but it has elastic around the back half (in a casing between the sweatband and the crown) and there is a cord lock on it so you can pull the elastic tight and keep it there. The elastic goes through the crown and the lock is on the outside for easy adjustments. The brim is 3" wide and stiff enough to keep it from falling in my eyes. The tag has the international "no washing" symbol on it, and (from 55 years of sewing experience) I'd say that is because a washing machine would wreck the interfacing they have used to stiffen the brim. However, the fabric feels to be one of those fast-drying polyesters, so it will probably shed most dirt. You could probably still wash it by hand if you don't scrunch the brim. The chin strap is long enough to get it on, but not so long that it will get in the way, and it has a slide lock. The sweat band feels to be cotton or at least a 65/35 cotton/poly blend. There are the standard 4 grommets in the crown for air, but also a strip of mesh all the way around.Construction looks durable. Stitch length was set at 3mm, which is correct for this fabric weight and the number of layers. This is not "basted" together. It looks like all the seams in the crown were serged, but they have also been covered with bias tape which is an excellent finishing touch. The crown flattens completely for packing. I would not fold the brim, but it's only 14.5" across, so that should fit in most suitcases.I ordered one for "Dad" and one for me. We haven't put them to the kayaking test yet, but I'm pretty certain that they will pass with flying colors.Aug 12, 2015 addendumWe've been kayaking and the hats were excellent. If you are going to be using them in the summer where it's hot, I recommend the lightest colors. 5It's OK but not for my intended use.I've been using a golf cap (baseball type) for years until my doctor advised me to cover up, use sunscreen, etc., to protect myself. As a result, I changed my golf cap to a outdoor bucket type hat for the last year or two. The wider brim provides better protection than a golf cap which has only a bill in the front. As a result of this change, I now have three caps (Outdoor Research Sombriolet Sunhat, Tuga Bucket Hat and this Camo Coll that I just purchased). My take is that if you're using this type of hat, a lot depends on how often you use it. The OR and Tuga hats stand up very well for my round of gold usually 5 hrs. in the sun. Both are UPF50+ rated so there's hardly any fading. The Camo is not UPF rated so I'm not sure how well it will fare.Having these three different sun hats, I can make the following observations:a. If the intended use is infrequent, the the Camo will probably suffice.b. If you're using it outdoors often, the UPF50+ protection offered by other brands is something that you will want to consider.c. The construction of the Camo is lightweight but on the flimsy side compared to the other two and although the brim is wide enough (3"), the depth of the hat is shallow so it fits right on the top of my head and I can feel the sun.d. On the other hand, if price and color selection are important, this Camo is very reasonably priced and offers a wide range of colors to choose from.Bottom line: The price for the OR and Tuga is higher so you get what you pay for. Since I use it often playing golf several times a week, I will opt for the OR or Tuga when I need to reorder again. 3Excellent Hunting hat if you like boonies / buckets! (Especially Bright Orange)OK lets start off with that at the time of this review, it's a $12 hat that in the description states 1 size (fits all) and measurements. I purchased the "Bright Orange" for use for hunting as i like boonie / bucket hats for that purpose. This one truely is Bright Orange (very Fluorescent) to meet or aid in meeting any F. Orange requirements. It will not keep you warm in winter, however when put over a a face mask or "skull cap / beanie" is excellent in keeping snow & rain off your shoulders neck face or sunshine out of your eyes. I usually put a handwarmer between the facemask and the hat to aid in keeping warm, though doing that with this defeats the purpose due to the netting. no big deal there. However, woodchuck / groundhog hunting in my state requires a solid Fl. Orange hat, and in that capacity this perfect to stay cool and have the head breathe a bit, and also creates plenty of shade due to the large brim (larger than most boonies). It's very lightweight and of no issue to put in just about any pocket or pack. Head band is a bit of a terrycloth material so that'll help to absorb though maybe not wisk away sweat. The netting helps to cool when there is a cross breeze, and allows heat from your "noggin" to escape.Beyond the chin strap, there's a little pull tab in the band to help cinch the hat to the head. That hat isn't waterproof or water resistant (to be expected as it has netting in it) but a quick spray with water repellent found just about anywhere helps as far as wearing and keeping the hat (and head) somewhat dry on drizzly days. Again with the netting you can't expect it to keep you dry.The chin strap is what it is, just sewn on to the edges of the hat and is adjustable. I don't really use it, but is the only way if you wanted to lift up and secure the sides in an upright position.I do plan on purchasing a few (in a different color light grey / white / khaki) for summer everyday use as a sunhat that doesn't look too goofy on ones head. Would make an excellent fishing hat too, or for the occasional hiker. Heck....it's perfect for wearing while playing horseshoes, cutting the grass, having a drink on the deck, etc. etc. 5
