Customer Reviews

Weird heel placementI would say these socks are decent. They apply a decent amount of pressure without being painful. The color is pretty uniform. There are a couple of issues, though. 1) I wear a size 8 in men's shoes and I swear this heel on the mediums is placed for someone with at least 1.5 times my foot size. 2) Your leg hairs will stick through the holes! and lastly 3) the socks if pulled above the knee roll down and painfully cut off circulation. They definitely need to be rolled down a little past the knee so that that doesn't happen. 3Best quality for reasonsI have worn these socks since 2002 because of venous stasis. They work. Especially at this level of pressure. I also like that i can cut the feet/toes off and they will still hold together. Lets face it...summer and 100 degrees is not feet or toe friendly weather when you need support hosiery! Amazon has the lowest prices on these socks i have seen since 2001. Very pleased to continue purchasing this brand....which now most thankfully comes in other colors besides icky black. Nice not too thick so you can wear cute socks over the top and still fit in your regular shoes, wash lots of times without a bunch of pills or snags, dont lose pressure with age, easy to slide on, and dont unravel when you cut the toes off. Win win. And i have had them last over a year easy peasy. 5PHYSIATRIC EVALUATIONI am a retired MD-physiatrist. I have prescribed compression hose for vascular, neurological, orthopedic, and burn-related conditions hundreds of times over a 30-year career. I am also a patient and have relied on these stockings for the past 10 years. This review is independent. I receive no monetary gain from any source related to these products. I do this solely for the public benefit. All of these stockings are knee-high. Thigh-highs are always the best, but patient compliance is terrible. I never wanted to wear them, and so I could not expect patients to do so.These are all rated 20-30 mm of mercury in compression despite listings describing them as anything between moderate and extra-firm. Any product with less may be nice for comfort or cosmesis but will do little by way of therapeutic intervention.RATINGS and observations:1 JOBST for men knee high closed toe compression stockings, extra firm legware for all day comfort for males, with odor control technology. The gold-standard but like gold, very pricey. Best fit and function. Best quality. Very plain in appearance. They need a hike-up once during the day. No loss of function after 10 uses and washes.2 FUTURO restoring dress socks for men, firm compression, over the calf.Definitely #2. One quarter the cost of Jobst. Good fit and function. Good quality. No daily hike-up needed. Nicer appearance than the Jobst. Excellent wear-and-tear. I used 3 pair continuously over one year in clinic and noted no loss of function. My neuropathic symptoms resolved over a few weeks of use. Of interest, Amazon s rankings wherein the Physix below were rated #1 did not include the Jobst or Futuro.3 GO2SOCKS compression socks for men women nurses runners medical stocking maternity travel.Inexpensive. Can cause discomfort if not donned optimally but good therapeutic compression. Good quality and daughter-impressing appearance. No daily hike-up. No loss of function over 10 uses.4 AMES WALKER AW styles 120 125 150 compression knee high socks.Inexpensive (all are compared to Jobst). Excellent compression but painful after a few hours use despite adjusting fit. Good quality. Look like P.E. socks. No daily hike-up. No loss of function after 10 uses.5 PHYSIX Gear compression socks for men & women graduated athletic fit for running, nurses, shin splints, flight travel & maternity pregnancy.Definitely NOT #1. Inexpensive. Good fit but non-therapeutic compression. Nice appearance which with ease of donning undoubtedly accounts for their popularity. No daily hike-up. They give less compression after each wash. I cannot recommend these as a physician because of non-efficacy.6 COPPER Compression Socks for men & women.Cheap. Poor fit and little function. Poor quality. OK appearance. Hike-up N/A because they do not cover the calf with initial donning. They become looser with each wash and are no better than regular socks in function. Not recommended. 5Works Well for EdemaI work in a casual dress office, and most compression socks or hose tend to look like something my grandmother would wear. I have had to wear compression hose since my early 30's, and honestly, because of the "style", I do not wear them as often as I should. I decided to try Futuro's Restoring Socks for Men. They work great, and instead of being $30-$50, they are $10. For that, I can practically replace my old compression hose collection! My ankles and legs get really swollen as the day progresses, but after a day of wearing these socks, they still look normal when I take them off. They do not squeeze too tightly and they breathe. I have to be honest -- I need my donning gloves to get them on. I can't just pull them up like a regular sock, they way I could with my older hose. But they do the job they are suppose to, and they don't cut off my circulation or leave red marks in my legs, so I will gladly take the effort to put on the gloves for the minute or two it takes to get the socks on.These do not go by shoe size, but by leg mesasurments, and by using the chart on the back, I was borderline Medium/Large. I got the medium, and they fit great. They do require hand drying, but I wash them in a knitted bag with my bras, hang them to dry and they are good to go. I would highly recommend these socks, especially if you are a women looking for something that is more like a "normal" sock! 5Quality Support Socks Can Improve Your General Health Across The BoardPeople who need support socks are best aided by those that exert graduated pressures, meaning different pressures in different places along their legs. Most if not all support sock manufacturers advertise that their socks have graduated pressure. Nevertheless, I tried a brand that sold socks that looked like stovepipes and did not work out well. I tried Futuro Restoring Dress Socks and noticed immediately that they were shaped like a human lower leg. This encouraged me because I thought it was a sign that my new socks truly would exert graduated pressure. After wearing them for a few weeks, I realized that everything about my general health was improving. During a six-month examination, my dermatologist even noticed that my overall skin condition had improved. I had overlooked that possibility and was surprised. 5Very, very satisfied.I'm an 80 year old male, in relatively good health for my age. I was recently diagnosed as being pre-diabetic. I had noticed some discomfort in my lower legs, especially when I've been active during the day. The doctor suggested the support socks. My first impression was, nah, I'm not that bad yet. Then one day I was in Walmart for another purchase, and noticed these socks. Bought a pair and tried them. At first, they were kind of a pain getting them on and off, but gradually, they became a part of my daily routine. Now, I won't go without them. I bought more pairs from Amazon, and I think for a little less cost, and they ship them right to my door. There is no question, my legs are more comfortable now. Another plus, I no longer have to sort for socks that match my clothing. :-) 5These have been the best so far in compression stocking for this 5' 9"-5'10" ...These have been the best so far in compression stocking for this 5' 9"-5'10" girl with large calves (18"). They are not short at all, if you pull them up to much, they will bunch at your knees, so I try to keep them a bit loose on the way up. The foot is a bit large for me (size 9.5 4e womens), but just barely, and it's not an issue. They don't compress the middle of my feet and make them cramp like other socks have done. They have a loose toe so my toes are not crushed together, and they can breathe. I have been able to wear these all day and night without needing to take them off due to being uncomfortable. 5Very comfortableTwo doctors recommended that I wear support(actually compression) socks. The first doctor insisted that I buy them at a sporting goods store. They did not have my size so I bought them online from Amazon; they were made by McDavid but they were so uncomfortable I could not wear them. Then I saw these Futuro socks at a pharmacy. I bought a pair and found them to be very comfortable. So I bought two pair from Amazon. Now it is too soon for me to evaluate their therapeutic effect, i.e. aid my circulation. But they are very comfortable and I enjoy wearing them.Instructions on the box tell you how to put the sox on but not how to take them off. There is a trick to that; otherwise you will have a real struggle to get them off. Start at the top, fold the top over, and then just pull down this outside layer over the heel and about halfway up the foot. Then grab the sock by the toe and pull it off. Do not try to take the sock off the way that you put it on, which was to gather material and roll it over the heel. That is the right way to put it on, but if you try to reverse that procedure to take the sock off, you will be in for a a long ordeal. 5Great product at a great price to solve a real promblemThese socks are great for simple or even preset ant swelling . They are graduated having less compression the higher you leg you go . I find this is just the right compression for me and I have had persistent edema for the last ten years wearing the three times more expensive mid calf type . These socks sell for $19.00 at Walgreens where I have bought several pair . This is a great price at less than $10 . Socks don't last forever neither will these . But they will last as long as other men's dress socks . Longevity will be improved if you keep your feet as smooth as you reasonably can . The most important thing you can do for the socks to work is buy the RIGHT size for your foot . I suggest you buy a pair of the size you think you wear if you can't find their chart else where . Then use a measuring tape to measure your calf AND floor to knee . Using the guide on back of package to choose the most appropriate size and pressure . Do NOT just use your shoe size alone , proper fit is important to proper function . The guide on back also has recommended pressure for different problems . I wear the Large and firm all day . And they keep my swelling in check . NOTE I was using the much more expensive graduated pressure stocking before at about $38 bucks a pop and they did not look very manly , I would wear dress socks over the top to disguise them . While that may be what you need for the price difference I tried one pair of FUTURO and found they suited by needs just as well . For swelling in the feet and legs these work for me , I hope they will for you as this is a money saver . one more Note : If your feet have been swollen for quite a time it will possibly take a week or so to get your swelling reduced . 5Cheap compression socks - ladies nylons for menI ve purchased (spent half a fortune) many brands of socks this year and have documented the following virtues and drawbacks of my purchases in attempt to allow you, the consumer, to have an easier time than me navigating the sea of compression sock choices. Note that some are dress socks (best for dress shoes) and others are sports socks (sneakers or any sports related shoes cleats etc.). You could certainly wear the sports socks in a business casual work environment.A bit of background:I wear nothing but compression socks now and forever as recommended by my doctor after getting a Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) (blood clot in leg vein) earlier this year. If you have leg circulation issues (Do your legs fall asleep when sitting on a bench for awhile?) (Are your feet/toes constantly cold?), you may want to wear compression socks too.My father always wore support socks for work, (which is basically the same thing we call compression socks nowadays) to reduces leg/muscle fatigue. That s why athletes also wear compression gear. As far as I m aware there are no negatives to wearing compression socks so consider wearing them just for comfort. (Disclaimer: I am not a doctor so check with one if you have concerns). On to the reviews:Gold Toe Men's Firm Compression Support Over the Calf Dress Sock, Black, Medium ($13.50 Prime)Quality compression sock (Top quality like all Gold Toe socks)Excellent compressionThin dress sock (made for a dress shoe)True knee-high sockStays up nicely and doesn t dig in at topPerfect quality after several washesBest quality for the price that I have foundFytto Style 1067 Men's Comfy Travel and Dress Compression Socks, 15-20mmHg, Knee High, Large, Black ($12.60 Prime)Similar to Gold Toe but one notch down in qualityNot quite as nice feel as Gold Toe (closer to ladies nylon feel than men s dress sock)Shows some wear after several washesLess compression than others (15-20mmHg instead of 20-30mmHg like most others on this review list)2nd best quality for the price that I have foundFuturo Restoring Dress Socks for Men, Black, Large, Firm (20-30 mm/Hg) ($11.49 Prime - also sold @ Wal Mart)Austin House Flight Socks (Large) (~$12 inc shipping)Cheap compression dress socks (Futuro sold @ Wal Mart)Basically thick ladies nylons (not so nice)Slippery in shoe (nylon)Decent compressionTrue knee-high sockStays up reasonably well (falls only a few times a day)Digs in a bit at top band of sock (helps sock fall down less but can be uncomfortable)Quality fades after several washesTerramed Organic Cotton Graduated compression Men's Socks Dress Travel Performance Stockings (20-30 mmHg) (X-Large, White) ($24.99 Prime)Nice soft cotton feel (they are indeed cotton).Good compression.Thin sock (but not too thin)Runs small buy the next size up. (I purchased M or L for all other brands but XL for Terramed based on other accurate reviews that these socks run quite small)Constantly fall down - Not Knee high - Too short for me (and I m not tall only 5 8 ) Even though XL size, sock doesn t fully rise past calf therefore are constantly falling down to my ankles. After a few washes, they seem to have lost some of their elasticity and fall down even more now.Overall Great feel but based on socks constantly falling to ankles, I will attempt to return these socks. They need to be taller and need to somehow figure out how to make elasticity last longer (maybe a couple % less cotton and more spandex)Vitalsox Patented Performance Graduated Compression Socks, White, Large ($17.29 - $33 Prime depending on color (white is $20.21)(Seems to be very similar to Travelsox and Eurosocks brands found on Amazon)Sports style (a bit thicker than dress sock and much more cotton-like feel)7 color choices even purple if that s your thing!Italian made (ooh ahh)Excellent qualityExcellent compressionSoft feel (close to cotton feel)Stays up nicelyQuality holds after several washesI highly recommend (for sport style socks)Jobst Compression Socks Rolls Royce of compression socks get them if you can afford to! Too many varieties and links so just search for them by name.A note on Jobst These are the compression socks that you get at medical supply stores and range from low compression to crazy high medical compression. Jobst socks are very expensive but worth it especially if you can get medical insurance reimbursement (Doctors orders). (Price ranges from $26-$75 depending on variety)Jobst Relief socks are not the same quality as Jobst Medical socks and cost half as much but are just fine if you can t get insurance reimbursement.Great compressionRelief socks feel much more like thick ladies nylons than Medical, which feels like a fancy dress sock.Available in wide variety (thigh high, knee high, open or closed toe)I prefer the open toe, knee high Medical sock and I wear a standard sock over them. For long flights, I ONLY use my Jobst socks.I ve washed my Jobst socks several times and they still appear to be new indicating they might last forever!Jobst also makes a thick cotton-like sports sock called ActiveWear . These are fantastic socks as well but note that they are much thicker than other sports style compression socks. If you want thinner sports style socks then go with Vitalsox/Eurosocks.Bottom line: The Jobst are without a doubt the best but crazy expensive so I only have a few of them and ALWAYS wear them on flights. I use Gold Toe as my standard socks for work, and Vitalsox/Jobst sport socks for weekends. I don t plan to purchase any more Fytto, Futuro or Austin House socks. Feel free to throw a comment back to me if you know of any other quality brands that I should try. 2
