Customer Reviews

Don't waste your moneyThe ice pack inserts are so tiny that you can't even feel a chill through the bandana. I bought this for post-tonsillectomy recovery and it was useless. Had to use full sized ice packs on my neck instead. 1about as good as you can expectone thing i've learned about the reviews is you have to take the good with the bad.. some people are just not happy with anything, some seem to give reviews that are too good, or they're trying to increase their 'vine' rating etc..But having tried this out for myself in tropically humid 85* Florida, I have to say it works about as well as you can expect it to work. For other climates that are more dry, the evaporating bandanas seem to work well.. but in areas with higher humidity, you can't rely on evaporation to keep cool.. here where I am, the solid freezing ice packs are the way to go.. and that's what this is. I tried it out last night on a 2 mile brisk walk and upon finishing about 45 minutes later, the pack was still cold and only melted about 3/4 of the way through. The only odd thing to get used to is you have the feeling of wearing a scarf and your mind can't get around that it's not something that is raising your temperature, but is actually keeping it lower. It gets colder as the fabric starts to get moist, which may be a problem for people who have skin problems and can't be in contact with something wet for too long. Imagine a wet washcloth with an ice pack in it.. this is what it feels like.So it is what it is.. for the price, this is what you get if you need actual ice and not evaporation to keep cool.. and it works. Considering the timeline above, if you order the cheap backup ice packs to keep in the freezer, you can be on a constant rotation of having a totally frozen pack if you have the 2 backups.. they freeze fairly quickly, faster than the 2 hours they claim.. and if you really want to you can get two bandanas and let one totally dry when you go to change the ice out.. I'm not sure how they would work in direct sunlight yet.. probably wouldn't stay moist, and may melt a little faster, but it still lasts long enough for what I need it for.. when I need it at all. The only better option may be the Black Ice product that keeps at a constant 50 degree or so temp for a few hours, and doesn't get wet at all.. but it's 50 bucks. I don't need something that much but i'd like to try it sometime. I'm interested in the long cooling time and the 'no fabric' material used that doesn't hold moisture.. this would be top line thing to have..The only other thing I can mention is you have to consider the negative reviews and the size of the people writing them. People with small necks will write negative reviews saying it doesn't fit. Being a guy with a 16 to 17 inch neck, it fits perfectly.. the last two ice packs sit right up against my neck arteries.. and it's not tight on me even when tightened fully. If you have a smaller neck obviously it won't close fully around your neck.. but you really don't want this anyhow as you don't want to cut off blood flow in the least, especially during exercise..So for 10 bucks it's good enough for me. The only problem I had is they sent the wrong color.. but Amazon is good about these things and just gave me a refund, they didn't even want it back.. o yeah, another good use is to just forget anyone can actually see you looking like a karate kid throwback and tie the thing around your forehead.. this works amazingly well to keep you cool.. in fact now that i've done it this way, it's my favorite way to wear it to keep cool. 5At least it takes the edge off...I purchased two of these as I walk and hike outside often. The temperatures in Klein/Spring Texas, where I live, have been hotter than I've ever felt them, with day upon day of 100 degrees F air temperatures. I had first used some kind of "cooling cloth" which just used evaporative cooling via water, but that didn't help at all. I then researched the reviews for cold-pack cooling neck wraps and I decided on these. In 100 to 105 degrees F temperatures, the item helps a little, but not enough. I guess it would work if one considered the 80s to 95 degrees F temperature range to be "hot," but, if it's hotter, then this item doesn't really have enough of a cooling effect. Also, at least in the temperatures in which I walk and hike, the cold pack strip starts to thaw and it turns into a collection of liquid in about under an hour. In addition, I have to tighten the neck wrap so much, so that the wrap is flush with my skin, that it feels like I'm choking -- if the wrap is not tight then it doesn't work very well. So, minus one star for melting/thawing in under an hour and minus one star for not having a great enough cooling effect and minus half a star for having to tighten the item so much.I'd still recommend this item, but if you're in 100+ degrees F temperatures, then I suggest you invest in an actively cooled cooling vest, or, maybe a space suit :PUPDATE : The cold-packs that slip into the neck wrap are now leaking in two places. I'm going to have to look for a better quality product. With all the problems, I do not recommend that anyone buy this item. 2Works well and Keeps my Pup CoolI bought this for my dog to help keep her cool in the warm weather. I works well as far as I can tell. The material is soft and the cold packs are similar to an ice pack, they get hard when frozen instead of being a gel. My dog gets a couple hours of outside time with this on before the pack has lost all its coldness. It stays tied well and is easy to get the knot undone when I take it off her. 5Good idea just needs tweakingInserts only last about a 1/2 hour playing golf in May in Florida. I had both the carrier and insert in the freezer overnight. The inside fabric gets wet and heavy. It soaks up the water. Good idea just needs tweaking. 2Works great, just doesn't work for longFirst, not that it matters or affects my review, the Ice Bandana I ordered was red/black and the one I received is gray/black. I don't care, I didn't even remember that I had ordered the red/black until I came back to Amazon to review it and saw my original order. But, still, I didn't receive exactly what I ordered, so I thought I should mention it.The Ice Bandana works really well, although, as mentioned by another Ice Bandana reviewer, it works best if you dampen the terry cloth side, which was not suggested anywhere in the product instructions. It is comfortable to wear and does help keep you cooler. I won't say "keep you cool," because working outside in the middle of the summer in Florida, nothing short of a full, air-conditioned moon suit is going to keep you cool.My only complaint is that the ice melts very quickly. I store my Ice Bandana in our big freezer at work, which is somewhat colder than the typical home refrigerator freezer. On a hot Florida summer afternoon, the ice lasts about an hour at the most - far from the "hours" of cooling advertised. Even at that, however, it is much more effective than those bandanas with the gel inside that you're supposed to soak in water and then put around your neck - no surprise there, as those work due to evaporative cooling and at our typical summer humidity levels, there's not much evaporation.I do recommend the Ice Bandana and I also recommend buying a couple of the replacement ice packs so you can just go in and swap out ice packs once the one you're using melts. 4I love this because it uses the ice packs in itI have a form of dysautonomia which makes me very intolerant of heat. I play in a band that plays primarily in the summer heat in Ohio. I love this because it uses the ice packs in it. I have used the water soaked bandanas before and they help at first for a short period of time with me, but then it would get soaked with my sweat and would just be a soppy, wet, smelly mess on my neck. This ice bandana lasts longer and stays dry. When I need to, I just easily swap the ice pack with another cool one. Also, small and easy to carry with you. Highly recommend. 5Really stays cold!I have ordered several different brands of cooling bands to find which one that will keep me the coolest. The ones that you rinse in cool water are great initially, but just don't last nearly as long as this particular version. I like how this has a separate liner with water-filled cubes that is frozen then inserted into the fabric band. The terry cloth side feels good against your skin while the outer more insulated layer helps keep in frozen longer.Wearing this I can take my dog on an hour long walk during July in Texas and it remains cool the whole time either tied around my neck or wrapped around my head like a headband.t's great they sell the long ice pack insert separately. I will order another one so I will have another frozen one ready if I need to use the band for an extended period of time. 5If it works for me, it'll work for anybody.I hate the heat. It makes me sick. A few minutes outside if it's over 75 and I'm sweating buckets and ready to throw up. I am, all summer, the biggest pansy you'll ever meet.I've been wearing this thing for a few weeks now when I'm out walking my dog. Our hottest day so far was 92, and that was after the sun backed off in the evening. During that hour-long walk I let out one single bead of sweat. That's saying something, because my dog is quite a bit more athletic than I am and she sets the pace. She's also a spoiled princess, which means I sling on a bag for our walks and carry a couple of liters of water for both of us.Oh. No nausea, either. I think miracles are a bunch of hooey, but this thing made me seriously question my belief system for a while. 5DisappointingThis was disappointing.I've been using ice packs in the evenings, because my husband and I can't agree on how warm/cool to keep the house. I have a wonderful flexible gel pack, but in one of the several moves he's insisted upon over the last five years, the neck wrap it went in has vanished. I can still use it, but it's a pain. I thought this would be a fantastic solution, but so far it hasn't been. I was looking for something that I could move around in and that would stay in place, but this is not it.First, the "ice snake" doesn't fit into the bandanna. It's actually one square too large, blocking the velcro closure. And that means (you guessed it) it slides out. Constantly.Second, the terry/neoprene bandanna doesn't allow enough cold to seep through. I swear I think I was better off with my gel pack wrapped in a kitchen towel. And third, it won't stay tied unless you tie it in a tight knot. Which then makes it almost impossible to untie, when it's time to go into the freezer again.I'm using it as well as I can, but this is not something I'd buy again, or recommend to anyone else. 2
