That's some smell.The bag itself seems decent in construction other than the buckle being placed in the dead center of the shoulder strap, which seems like a questionable design decision. A number of reviews have said the smell was minor or nonexistent, but I can't overstate how profoundly mine smells. I assumed it would dissipate quickly, but instead the room it was in began to smell like the back end of a barn. After four weeks of hanging up to air out, the smell was mostly unchanged. I would have just returned it, but the window of time to do so already passed. I gave the bag two thorough cleanings with Bickmore brand leather cleaner and conditioner to little avail. In frustration, I then used a damp cloth with some water and tea tree oil just to see if that would scrub some of this scent off, but it still reeks of dead animal.I might just be unlucky as this bag has a lot of great reviews, but I regret purchasing it -- I want a reasonably-priced brown leather shoulder bag, but I don't want to smell like a hard-working stablehand at ten paces every time I carry it. 2Very satisfied!I love it! It was packaged very nicely and smelled like....wait for it...leather. Not overpowering at all, only noticeable if I stick my face up to it and sniff. It is a little stiff, but it's new, so I expect it'll soften up over time. The buckles on the front are true buckles - a nice touch that I hope holds up. The construction seems sturdy both inside and out.It has a large middle slot that easily fits a laptop plus plug and other items. There is a narrow slot in front and a narrow slot behind the large slot that each easily fit a notebook, some folders, etc. There is a zippered pocket on the inside of both the front and back panels that could easily hold sheets of paper folded in half, mailing envelopes, etc. There is also a zippered pocket on the back of the bag on the outside that is really handy to stick mail out of so I don't forget to put it in the mailbox.The two front pockets fit a fair amount, but they do not extend out on the bottom any, so that limits what you can put in there. The side pocket easily fits pens and pencils.What I can fit in this bag without overstuffing it at all:Laptop (middle slot)Laptop plug (middle slot)Flat bag with chargers, plugs, flash drives, etc. (middle slot)1 spiral bound notebook (back slot)3 folders stuffed with papers (front and back slots)Moleskine calendar (outside front pocket)A dozen pens or so (side outside pocket)Small set of keys (outside front pocket)ID and lanyard (outside front pocket)Mail I forgot to put in the envelope...(outside back zippered pocket)Updated May 2018I've had this bag for over a year and a half now, and I use it every day. It gets buckled and unbuckled multiple times a day, gets tossed in and out of the car, and basically gets abused on a daily basis. The pics show what it looks like now, stuffed, and after all that use. I get compliments on this bag all the time, and people ask me where they can get their own. As you can see from the pics, none of the seams, zippers, buckes, straps, or handles show the kind of wear I'd expect after what it's been through, and nothing looks remotely in danger of failing.The only complaints I have on this bag are that the side pocket really isn't tall enough to hold pens and still snap the pocket shut (no biggie, I put them in the front slot pockets), and since I primarily carry this bag on my left shoulder, the extra strap length flaps in my face (no biggie, I wear it backwards or on the other shoulder, and my back would prefer some balance anyway), but those are by no means dealbreakers. I have already gotten more than my money's worth for this bag, and I look forward to many years of use. 5Leather smells like an animal farm.Despite the reviews I bought this bag. It looks beautiful however the smell does NOT go away. And it is STRONG. I left it to air our before using for one week, but immediately smelled it upon first use. It was over powering in my car, and I kept going it would go away. Think of goats. That is the animal smell that came to mind. I was complimented on it when I went to coffee shop. However the same woman who complimented ended up moving to another table away from me and the bag. A leather messenger bag should not make one self conscious about the way they smell the same way as if I hadn't bathed for a week. Altho, customer service was pleasant to accept my return I was sad I could not move passed the smell. Despite the other reviews, it never subsided despite my efforts. And the noted design flaw of the buckle placement in the middle of the strap was also cumbersome. 1High quality messanger bag that will not disappoint.Very attractive and it seems to be of high quality. Only time will tell how it stands up but it has all appearances of a bag that will last for a very long time. One note is the front buckles - they are real buckles so if you are expecting a rare earth magnet or some other fast mechanism for opening it, you will not get that with this one. It does keep your items more secure I would feel. I like the buckles myself. I would buy this again. 5Excellent qualityWow. I'm not sure what I was expecting but this exceeded all expectations. I can't say just how happy I am with this purchase. 5Product review and smellI received this messenger bag for the start of my nursing education. It came beautifully wrapped in a silk like bag, and carefully packaged. I was a little bit worried ordering this bag due to some of the reviews- not just about the product- but the smell as well. Right away after receiving the bag, I applied a leather cleaner and conditioner. This seemed to really help the smell and brighten up the leather. Honestly, I was blown away by the quality of the product, and the personal touch of the letter by the seller. Overall, well done! 5Great Replacement of the School BackbackThis is a great, entry-level leather bag. There are plenty of pocket options inside and outside of the bag. Construction is sturdy. There is a difference between a $50 leather bag and a $500 one besides brand, so keep that in mind. I removed one star for minor design issues. But if you want something to replace your school backpack because you work in an office or around a bunch of people in suits - a bag like this is fine.Design issues I would change are the side pocket on the outside is not practical. I think it's too deep and it's not very secure. I would not trust my USB drive, airpods, wallet, keys, or phone in that pocket. The other design issue are the buckle straps. They look fine, but the pin in the buckle will come out of the strap unless the bag is hanging from the handle (not the shoulder strap). So again, not the most secure, but if you're walking around the office with this, you'll be fine. 4Great quality and valueI spent a good hour searching through the different leather bags for my new computer and I finally settled on this one... But it definitely wasn't "settling".As mentioned in other reviews, it comes in a beautiful protective bag and a note about care and being a small business. If you like natural leather, then it smells intoxicating!The color is a beautiful brown that will only get better with age. It's a little stiff at first, but I'm going to use some leather conditioner on it.There are lots of inner pockets and zipper compartments. It's also padded in the middle section. It's not padded on the bottom, but I've got a felt sleeve for my laptop and it is fineIt has ample room for my surface book, textbook and papers and plenty of space for my wires and mouse etc. There is a snap pocket on the side.All the buckles are real buckles, not magnetic or snaps. The strap uses a buckle for adjusting length and the strap pad will cover the buckle, so it won't dig into your shoulder.I'm so happy with this bag, as is my husband. He's decided he wants to get one for himself now. 5Real Leather Done the Old WayThis is an exceptionally well made leather bag. The leather is supple and construction is very good. This is the second bag I've purchased from Komal, and I couldn't be happier. The first one was so nice that my coworker gushed over it. Eventually I broke down and brought this for them. They love it too.I know some sellers have a problem with the color rubbing off, but I have not had this problem. Because it is leather that has been worked and tanned the old way, it will smell a bit when you first get it. This will go away within the week, and you will be left with a bag that should last a lifetime. 5Mostly good quality.This bag! Where do I begin with this bag. I ve only had it for abou two days now, it came with a little tear in the canvas pocket; I m not too neurotic over that type of stuff everything else was in great condition. It came inside of a bag with a little note from the maker and some care instructions, which was really neat. I read a lot of reviews about the smell, I honestly like that but it s not overbearing at all. I like my big bags, which was one of my intents for purchasing this. Something for every day AND for travel. This isn t the largest bag I ve used by any means but it does seemingly have this extra bulk to it, maybe because of the square shape or perhaps the leather material. That and the belt buckles are the only draw backs for me. Seriously the buckets are awesome looking, they complete the aesthetic of the bag but they are not practical especially for continuous use ( I m using this as my every day purse). I m considering customizing it with some Velcro or perhaps magnetic strips of some sort because I really do want to keep this. The last thing I want to talk about is the space! There is so much space, seriously there s an outside zipper on the back, two big zippers on both inside walls of the bag, both with additional matching pockets, with one big pocket in the middle! Pockets pockets pockets!!! It s got space for your pens/ utensils. The two outermost flaps are big enough to fit small journals. This bag is perfect for students/artists. I was looking for something spacious and durable and it looks like I found it. 4
