No instructionsI actually got this watch for my tomboy daughter. She absolutely could not figure it out, though, as it came without any kind of instructions. She found that very frustrating. She brought it to Dad, who pushed buttons and tried things, until he was able to set the time and set alarms. He showed her how to do that. She did figure out how to use the stopwatch and how to turn on the light on her own.Now that she knows how it works, she loves it. She has found it to be pretty easy to work with. 3Sleek Comfortable WatchI really like the black on gray colors on this watch. It is very comfortable not to heavy, I wear it all day long. I like that it has military time. It has all the functions as normal watches, date, alarm, stopwatch. The only problem I have is it is difficult to read the time in low light, you must push the light button to be able to really see the time. 4Five Starsgreat 5Five Starsi love it and wear it everyday 5Nice WatchI needed a watch I could wear that was okay to get beat up. This Sketchers fit the bill. Not expensive and fairly rugged.I'm not sure why so many reviewers had a problem reading the display but mine is fine. Not as bright as the picture here but still easy to read. The light makes reading in complete darkness efficient. No instructions but not a problem if you've ever owned a digital watch in the past four decades. Easy to set and use. Large buttons help. It's nice looking. For days hiking, kayaking, or cycling I don't have to be without a timepiece and my smartwatch doesn't get ruined.Nice thick band (not sure if it's replaceable or not). Has all the bells and whistles that digital watches normally have: alarms, stop watch, date etc.Highly recommended 4A nice affordable 'Sporty' watchThis review is for the Skechers Men's "El Porto" watch in the black/gray color. To start, as other reviewers have mentioned, this watch is VERY hard to read. If you are looking for something that looks like the product photo, keep looking. However, if you watch the little 360 video, you will see what this watch face really looks like. It's NOT 'unattractive', it's just difficult to read in some lighting. That said, from a 'fashion' perspective, the watch is very sporty, though a tad bit over-sized. The instructions were lousy, though not too difficult to figure out. I have one Casio G-Shock watch (a much more expensive watch) that I never could figure out. You can select 12 or 24 hour, and it does have an alarm. It does have a stopwatch and alternate timezone, which is nice. We have family a couple of hours away and it's nice to be able to switch the time when visiting.Overall, it's not a bad watch for the price and is comfortable to wear. As I have an Apple Watch, my son has mostly used this for those select times when he needs a watch (he's otherwise not a big watch wearer). I would not anticipate it lasting a super long time, but it's 'sporty' in terms of appearance, if not in terms of features. If you are looking for a TRUE 'sports' watch yet do not want a smartwatch, and low price is not a major concern, I would recommend you compare offerings from Suunto (Core), Garmin (Instinct or Tactix Bravo), Casio (G-shock), or perhaps most affordable, the Timex Ironman Rugged 30 or T5K528. 4There are two big problems with thiswatch - first the digital readout is barely visible at ...There are two big problems with this watch - first the digital readout is barely visible at anytime let alone in dark conditions. The light hardly helps. Second, this watch doesn't come with instructions. It comes with a tiny booklet but no programming instructions and Sketcher's doesn't have anything on their website. I called them as well but nothing.I thought it was just a bad version so I sent it back for a replacement - replacement same thing.Good thing I bought this from Amazon! Sending back! 12.5 stars - Very hard to read in most lightFirst and foremost, the picture of this watch online is misleading. The numbers aren't white on a black face - they are less black on a more black face. In most light, it's very difficult to read the face, and the backlight is only helpful in full dark. I honestly wouldn't purchase this because of how hard it is to read the watch face. The watch didn't come with any kind of instructions for setup, but I found that the buttons were pretty standard, there are no surprises to how to set the time, year, date, etc.Functionality: * You have the option between 12 and 24 hour readouts on the clock * There is one alarm that can be set, when you set the alarm, there is a bell icon that appears to the left of the seconds, and a speaker icon to the right of the seconds display. The watch allows one, or the other, or both to be shown, but I haven't figured out why there are two; the only time that the alarm actually goes off is if the speaker icon is selected, so the bell seems to be a bit redundant. * There is a pretty standard stopwatch - no surprises here * There is NO timer, which seems really odd in a sports watch. There are all sorts of activities that I want a timer for, especially when active, and this watch is disappointing in its lack of such a basic feature. * There is an alternate time zone feature. This is another baffling thing for a sports watch. Why would it be preferable to track the time somewhere I don't live to having a timer on a sports watch? I can see this feature could be nice for someone who travels between two specific time zones frequently, or communicates regularly with someone in a different time-zone, but those functions have nothing to do with activity and don't really seem to fit the market that this watch is designed to attract. Finally, this watch is actually very comfortable to wear and I like that even with a lot of activity (and sweat), the plastic in the band doesn't get a super funky odor. 3Ain't nobody got time for this watch, at least not me.First, the display is barely readable. I cannot tell the time at-a-glance because the display is too dim.Second, I could not figure out how to set the time. I got "T2" set, whatever that is, but the watch kept reverting to the time it came with, which is two hours ahead of where I am.Third, it came with no instructions.Fourth, on the Skechers warranty/instructions web site, there is one huge .pdf that has instructions for many watches, but nothing for the SR1008.Fifth, the instructions I saw for similar watches were so baffling that even if they did have instructions for this watch, I doubt I'd ever remember them.Ironically, this watch is a complete waste of time. 1Good build quality, but poor designSo this is a watch for a working person. It's easy to use our phones or smart watches for time, but some people need a watch that can get clobbered a bit, survive the elements, and still easily tell them what time it is. There are a lot of these inexpensive 'sport' watches these days, and frankly it's a competitive segment. This watch has two jobs: tell the time and not break. It is definitely a robust design, with a comfortable plastic that is thoroughly solid. I'd have no problem wearing this under virtually any conditions. The buttons won't break, the band won't break, it's just a good solid chunk of plastic. Granted it's not pretty, but I think that's perfectly fine as it's really not that bad looking either.Unfortunately I find it very difficult to read, and particularly outside where many hard working people who would want a watch like this will find themselves. It wasn't that hard to figure out how to set it up, and I had included instructions (apparently unlike some), but I just can't read it that easily outside. Inside or with great ambient like, like a cloudy day, it's OK. Just OK. The inverted colors from most watches just doesn't work, even if it looks kinda cool. The light background with black text is crisp. I also suspect, though didn't see this yet, that when the battery begins to die, it will be impossible to read much earlier than with the more conventional dark text scheme.Unfortunately telling the time is kinda the point, so without being able to reliably do so this isn't going to work. 2
