Customer Reviews

XL-1 is not the same as XL-1 AdvancedI bought these without really understanding that these were the "advanced" model, not the regular XL-1 glasses. The difference, to me, isn't positive and I wish I had bought the regular XL-1s for two reasons:1) The advanced model sold here is much more difficult to remove the lenses than the regular model. Took my literally 10 minutes of pulling and tugging and pushing to make a lense come out. The good news is that nothing broke but I can't see myself doing it very often.2) The advanced model sold here has a thinner gasket. Not sure if that's good or bad but I'm guessing bad. See attached pic. These are too bulky and expensive keep two in my bag, so I wish the lenses were easier to swap. 3Good ballistics for small faces.I'm not sure if this is how it is supposed to fit or what, but I have a TINY face and these fit very well. I usually wear junior or kids' sized shooting glasses or ballistics, but I wanted a goggle type of glasses without being bulky. Also, I got Lasik and wanted something to keep everything out on windy days. I am also military and wanted to have a catch all eye protection that kept everything out, could be clear or sunglasses, and of course, ballistic. These are great. The t-strap connects in the middle and really snugs the frame to your head. I read the reviews about getting used to the foam, and I could see that. I have long eyelashes and they always hit normal sunglasses lenses and end up smudging the inside of the lens. I love the foam because it is finally something that keeps the lens off of my eyes and eyelashes, yet doesn't rest on my cheeks, and is closed up top too. I really like these. They only have 2 logos on the arms that could be blacked out. These came with the light adjusting lenses. They do not adjust to being that dark and they do not adjust fast either. The difference is minimal. So much so that I am heavily considering purchasing a set of clear and dark lenses and replacing them.I love that everything is interchangable. 4Wiley X Customer Service is uselessSo I bought these glasses to replace my older pair of Wiley-X Blink. The rubber came off the temple of the Blinks and used to rip my hair out every time I removed them. These new XL-1 Advanced glasses have a small gap between the plastic and rubber that also catches your hair and rips it out. Here's my big problem, when I called Wiley X, they said they new about the design flaw and suggested I buy a new pair. That was their resolution, that I spend more money. I was hoping they'd offer a trade, but they don't really seem to care about customer support. It looks like I have to find a new manufacturer. 1Oddly sized, cheap nose pieceThey're just okay. Maybe I have an odd shaped face, but these sunglasses don't seem to know what sized face to support. The lenses/front side supports a large face, while the part that rests on the ears supports a medium face. As a result, I find these sunglasses loose on the face and too tight on the sides of my head. The rubberized nose piece breaks down after awhile if exposed to some facial products. In all, these sunglasses only lasted about 6 months of use and were uncomfortable to wear for more than an hour at a time. I miss the older generation Wiley X. 2The Glasses for the RideI've been wearing Wiley X XL-1 (in different forms) for years now. With the gasket they are great on the motorcycle with a 1/2 helmet. Take the gasket off and they look great walking the streets. I used to get the Wiley crimson lenses but apparently they don't make them any longer. Fuse has a Blaze Mirror polarized lens here on Amazon that looks as good and works great into the sun... bright but glare definitely reduced over non-polarized.I'll keep buying these glasses as long as they make them (I think I'm on my 5th pair). They are often out of stock with backorder delays so be patient. 5A Great Value For Your Eye ProtectionI have bought the Wiley X XL-1 glasses for years. They give the right amount of screening protection without distortion. The only time I buy the new glasses is when I have worn the frames to death. The replacement lenses are available at reasonable prices. Oh, they are ballistic glasses offering great eye protection, too! No disappointments with Wiley X. 5Don't make them like they used t0I've owned 2 pairs of these in the past, and they have changed the most critical component for my use (riding a motorcycle) such that the glasses are now useless. The foam gasket is what keeps the wind and debris out of your eyes, and they've now made the gasket less than 1/2 as thick as it used to be. It no longer seals to my face, and I suspect that is true for most other people as well. I've attached a photo to show the difference. My old ones are on the right, with the thick gasket. I'm returning them, and will look elsewhere for a product that actually does something different than a $10 set of safety glasses that these have become. 3Could have been greatOverall I think these glasses/goggles are good but not great. Hopefully, the folks at Wiley are listening and this will help in your buying decision. I purchased these for eye protection while on my motorcycle. Style wise they are okay. A little small, but acceptable.Pros:- Light weight- Optics are fantastic. All objects come out sharp without distortion. Think Oakley or Maui Jim grade.- Peripheral vision is good. Styling wise Wiley could have stretched these even further out on the edges- The strap keeps everything in place. I need that when going down the highway at fast speeds- Price didn't break the bank- Interchangeable lensesCons:- The gasket has no depth. My eyelashes touch the lenses when I tighten the band. This drives me nuts!. Add MORE material to the gasket. It's pretty insignificant (minimalistic) padding. Cheap, Cheap. Why?- Wind does get into these, but cycles down and out. I'm not sure how well my eyes would hold up on a long distance trip. This could easily be solved with a better padded gasket.- Not sure I understand why the over the ear temples are straight. Seems they would just slip down. Again, Wiley needs to do some re-engineering.- Nose piece is adequate. Would have been nice if they rubberized it more to prevent slippage.Only time will tell if I like these. I think someone at Wiley had a really great idea then went to lunch and never came back. These could have been awesome, but they really lack some key differentiators setting it apart from professional eyewear. Again, the GASKET really kills it for me because when you are hitting those speeds the last thing you want is interference. I have a lot of goggles and this will go in the average pile.Hope this helps! 3Terrific sunglassesI've been wearing this brand for years but this style has been the most comfortable and lightweight so far. Then the value of what you receive (good quality sunglasses, extra clear lenses, case, cleaning cloth, headstrap and the cushion inside the glasses that make the fit extra comfortable and protective. I love these! 5Nice cheap sunglasses with some goggle like traitsNice cheap sunglasses with some goggle like traits. These are flexible enough that they'll fit a wide range of head sizes and the interchangeable lenses are nice as is the ability to install a gasket around the eyes to help block out wind and dust. The included strap is easy and quick to connect to the arms and doesn't require the removal of the arms like the SG-1. They're a nice pair of sunglasses for someone who also needs occasional protective goggles. 4
